CPR
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is an emergency procedure used when the heart stops beating. By administering chest compressions, a bystander can stimulate blood circulation for the patient until medical professionals arrive. By keeping blood flow active, CPR can significantly increase the likelihood of survival for someone experiencing cardiac arrest.
What if I’m not certified? Can I perform CPR?
There are two types of CPR: the conventional method used by healthcare professionals and those trained in CPR, and the hands-only method used by the general public or bystanders. Hands-only CPR is a two-step method:
- Call 911
- Push hard and fast in the middle of the chest
Where can I get CPR Certification?
Currently, Clearcreek Fire District does not offer CPR classes for the public. However, Coffman Family YMCA offers CPR and First Aid Certification classes. Visit their website for class schedules and registration information. Additionally, an internet search will provide other locations offering classes.
